DAVETREK ADVENTURES

PLEASE PRINT THESE DIRECTIONS AND BRING THEM ON SUNDAY

WE ARE GOING TO VERY SPECIFIC LOCATIONS AND IF YOU FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS YOU WILL BE FINE

THERE ARE NO ‘ADDRESSES’ TO INPUT FOR YOUR GPS

I DO LIST GPS COORDINATES TO ENTER FOR

THOSE WHO KNOW HOW TO DO SO

BEST IS JUST TO FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS BELOW.

YOU HAVE 3 SETS OF DIRECTIONS

#1 – DIRECTIONS TO BOATING

#2 – DIRECTIONS FROM BOATING TO THE BBQ

#3 – DIRECTIONS DIRECTLY TO THE BBQ LOCATION

THE TWO HARDEST PARTS ARE:

GETTING OFF THE RIGHT EXIT IN NJ FOR THE BOATING ( EXIT 1, LAST EXIT IN NJ)

FINDING WHERE TO TURN OFF FOR THE BBQ ALONG RT 209 IN PENNSYLVANIA, AS THE DRIVE BETWEEN BOATING AND THE BBQ IS ABOUT 25 MINUTES OR SO – JUST MAKE SURE TO START LOOKING FOR SIGNS ON YOUR RIGHT SIDE AFTER 12 MILES OF TRAVELLING ON RT 209, AND ITS ABOUT 2 MILES PAST THE SIGNS FOR BUSHKILL FALLS ON YOUR RIGHT – WE HOPE TO MARK THIS WITH LIGHTS AND BALLOONS

If you are coming boating, you need 1) to get to the boating and 2) to get from the boating to the BBQ/Camping location and ignore 3), Its a 20 to 25 minute drive between boating and the BBQ area.

If you are coming directly to the BBQ/Campsite, use 3) and ignore 1) & 2).

See you!

David

1) Directions to Boating - ( Ignore if you are coming straight to the BBQ/Campsite)

Arrive between by 9:30 AM and 10:00 AM – anyone coming after 10:00 AM may not be able to go boating.

We are meeting in the parking lot next to the Kittatinny Point Visitor Center , inside the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. This is about 80 to 100 miles away for most people in NJ & NY.

It takes a minimum of 90 minutes for everyone to get here, so leave no later than 8:00 AM from your last pickup. Do not wait more than 10 minutes for anyone you are picking up – that makes the group late for the whole day and its not fair to others.

BOATING LOCATION - Kittatinny Point Visitor Center  -  GPS Coordinates are:

                                           Latitude,              Longitude

40°58'12.6"N   75°07'47.8"W

Alternate coordinates        40.97017,         -75.129932

Here is a google map link to the boating location

You can use this link to make directions for yourself using google maps. Just click the link, and inside a little popup window you will see a link to create ‘directions’. Click the ‘directions’ link and enter your address and you are all set to go!

There is no address for any of the places I am going to give out, so you need to both google map and you can use your GPS as well, using the GPS Coordinates above. One of the submenus on all GPS units allows you to enter GPS coordinates instead of an address. Trust me, its there, just look for it!

Otherwise, here are the directions:

Directions From Anywhere in NY

Take The George Washington Bridge to NJ. Follow the signs to RT 80 West, which come fairly quickly after you exit the bridge.

Go on Rt 80 all the way to the end, over 60 milesuntil EXIT 1 Millbrook/Flatbrookvillethe last exit in NJ. Get off the exit, and follow the signs to the Visitor Center, bearing left. Here are the directions if you miss the sign

Turn Left at stop sign at bottom of the ramp, then continue bearing to the Right for 0.6 miles. Turn Right into visitor center parking lot. You will see us set up, and ready to register you for the event,

DO NOT GO INTO PENNSYLVANIA! YOU WILL JUST DELAY YOUR TRIP AND HAVE TO TURN AROUND.

The visitor center is about 1/2 of a mile off the highway, under an overpass and next to the Delaware River. We will be meeting in the parking lot of the center.

From points in NJ – Northern NJ & Passaic

Find the best way near you to RT 80 West. Get onto Rt 80 West wherever is closest, and follow the directions from ‘Anywhere in NY’above.

Other Places in NJ – West Orange, HP, etc

You want to get to Rt 80 West in the closest manner possible. For those in West Orange, that means taking Rt 280 West till it hits Rt 80. From Highland Park, that means taking Rt 287 North till it hits Rt 80 West. In all cases, get onto Rt 80 West wherever is closest, and follow the directions from ‘Anywhere in NY’ above.

Arrival and Check in Procedures for Boating

If you arrive early, check in first then sort your stuff out – if late, come prepared to leave and be quick! To speed things up, keep these tips in mind, esp if you are later than earlier

Bring Only The Following

lunch, suntan lotion, hat, water, shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting wet

Leave in the car everything else, including:

leave your valuables, camera, phones, money and anything you don’t want getting wet in the car

BOATING COMPANY Info –  In case you are late and can’t reach me on my cell, let the boating company know – just realize you may not be able to boat if you are late!

Chamberlain Canoes

 1-800-422-6631

If you come later than 9:30am, you might not be able to boat, so please leave at the suggested times below so you have a good, relaxed day.

THIS LOCATION IS INSIDE THE DELAWARE WATER GAP NATIONAL RECREATION AREA ON THE NJ SIDE.

THE  BOAT MEETING PLACE  THIS IS THE LOCATION WHERE THE BOATING WILL END – YOU WILL BE BUSSED TO THE START POINT, WHICH IS 15 MINUTES NORTH IN PENNSYLVANIA ( Smithfield Beach Access in PA), AND PADDLE DOWN FOR 6 MILES, which will take 2 to 3 hrs for most people, without including lunch. The current typically ruins 2 miles per hour, so you can be leisurely or paddle to get to the end. Its quite wide and scenic!

After Boating - tips

Once you get back to the cars, you will then need to wait for the people in your car to return, or you can go with a different car. Make sure to change and use the bathrooms here at the boating end point. They are the best bathrooms you will see over the course of this event so go before you come to the Camping/BBQ area  You will then drive to the BBQ/Camping Location, which is about 30 minutes away, about 17 miles north, in Pennsylvania.

2) DIRECTIONS FROM BOATING LOCATION TO BBQ/CAMP SITE (ignore if coming directly to the BBQ) – 30 minutes, 17 miles away.

This is simple! We are going to the following location:

Valley View Group Campsite – Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area
GPS Coordinates -             Latitude,                              Longitude

                              GPS  +41° 6' 53.4702",            -74° 58' 3.6294"

Alternate coordinates - 41.114853                          -74.967675

Here is a google map link you can use

to plot your way to the BBQ/Campsite Location.

If you know how to enter GPS coordinates into your GPS (typically one of the settings submenus) you can use the above coordinates which take you right to where we are BBQ’ing/Camping.

If you like, you can put Bushkill Falls, in Bushkill PA into your GPS as that is close to us, just make sure to continue along RT 209 for another 2+ miles till you get to the campsite entrance on your right.

Summary - Go back to the RT 80 Entrance ramp you got off to go to the boating area, go onto Rt 80 West, towards Pennsylvania, cross over the Delaware River into PA, get off at Exit 309 , Go on Rt 209 North for about 13 miles and you have arrived! It takes about 30 minutes and is about 17 miles between the Boating and the BBQ/Camping Location.  I have detailed directions below.

Exit the parking lot and Make a Right onto the road in front of the parking lot, go underneath the roadway ( Rt 80) and make a left turn after the underpass following signs onto Rt 80 West, towards Pennsylvania.

Stay on Rt 80 West crossing the Delaware River, paying a toll and entering into Pennsylvania.

Soon after entering Pennsylvania, get off at Exit # 309 / Marshalls Creek, (the 2nd Exit in PA) and get onto Rt 209 North.

Mark your odometer and continue along RT 209 North for approximately 13 miles. You will see signs for Buskill Falls at about 11 miles, and our location /Valley View Campground is about 2 miles past the exit off Rt 209 for Bushkill Falls, on your right side. If you come to Dingman’s Ferry, you have gone to far, so turn around and head back. Just pay attention after Bushkill Falls.

After 13 miles, Exit to your Right at the sign for the Valley View Group Campground – Delaware National Recreation Area. I will try to have balloons or lights to help indicate the sign, but just look for it after Bushkill Falls.

Go down a dirt road until you reach a parking lot around a bend. Park in this parking lot then walk to the campsites. You can’t drive up to the campground spots like at other locations we have been at.

We have 4 sites, no. 1, 2 , 3 & 4. The BBQ area will be in Site #1, the first area you arrive at and the tents area will be at Sites 2, 3 & 4.  There are a total of 5 sites and one other group camping in this location while we are there, so please keep that in mind. Here is a link to a map of the campsites and parking lot.

PARKING – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

You will need to park your cars in the parking lot you reach when you go down the road to the campsite. Unlike in past years, you can’t drive up to the sites – you will need to walk a few hundred yards, carrying your stuff to where you can tent. If you must drop passengers or your gear, drive past the parking lot to the end of the road and quickly drop your gear and passengers. It’s a crowded area with little ability to turn around, so best is to park in the parking lot and come over and see where we will be, then we can help direct you as to where you will go. We will also have some carts to bring your supplies to the tenting area from the parking area.

Please follow these directions to the BBQ area, there is no address for this area, its distinct from the rest of the park, so your GPS may not work as well.

3) DIRECTIONS DIRECT TO THE BBQ/CAMPSITE LOCATION – Arrive No Earlier than 4 PM, unless you want to help set up for the BBQ.

Please follow these directions to the BBQ area, there is no address for this area, it’s distinct from the rest of the park, so your GPS may not work as well.

Driving Directions

It takes a minimum of 1hr 45 minutes to 2hrs for everyone to get here. Its 90 to 120 miles for most people – the last 17 miles are on a road that goes close to the Delaware River and slows you down, so be careful and take your time. There will still be food left when you arrive!

Otherwise, here are the directions:
