OVERALL DEADLINE  Sunday, August 8

We will be going to Fahnestock State Park, in NY State about 60 miles north of NYC, off the Taconic State Parkway. You can hike or relax at the nearby beach, and go boating in kayaks or rowing boats at additional cost. We will end the day with a catered kosher dinner. Hope to see you! See below for all of the details

Overview of the Day

Hiking - We will have one moderate hike of 5 to 7 miles.

Nature Walk - I will lead a 1 to 2 mile nature walk for about 1 hr

Beach - There is a nearby beach with lifeguards for those who want to swim, a snack bar and boats you can rent. The beach is a 10—15 minute walk from our meeting location, parking available at the beach at $9 per car).

Boating - They have kayaks and row boats at the beach that you can rent for an additional cost of $10 to $15 per boat per hour.

Dinner - We will end the day with a light pareve and dairy diner - salads, sandwiches, fruit and other snacks.

Options for the day - You can do the nature walk and go to the beach/boating afterwards for a short time, perhaps 2hrs  before we have dinner.

You can go to the beach or boating instead of the  short hike. If you choose the long hike and we offer it, you will just be able to do the long hike and then be back for dinner.

DIFFICULTY AND LENGTH OF THE HIKE

The hike  will be an easy to moderate hike, 5 to 7miles long. It  may have some elevation changes. You should bring HIKING SNEAKERS OR BOOTS IF POSSIBLE. This is able to be hiked by a beginner but only if you can easily walk up to 7 miles with ease. We will be hiking and exploring for about 3 to 4 hrs on the trail, so plan your clothing and food accordingly.

BRING LUNCH, AND WE WILL HAVE A HOT CATERED KOSHER DINNER. IT MAY BE CHINESE FROM TOKYO HIBATCHI IN SPRINGFIELD NJ OR FROM CARLOS AND GABBYS, WITH VEGETARIAN OPTIONS

WEATHER AND RAIN

The weather right now looks good but its early. Cloudy and temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. Any SIGNIFICANT CHANCE OF RAIN IN THE FORECAST WILL CANCEL OUR OUTING. I will send a note out on Friday to those coming with a weather update.

RIDES

We hope to offer rides to those who need. If we don't have enough rides for all, preference for rides goes to those who sign up first, so please RSVP ASAP! The cost for rides is $12 per person.

DRIVERS - Please let us know if you can give rides to people. I assume full reimbursement occurs for people who take 2 passengers.

DIRECTIONS

Fahnestock State Park  is about 75 minutes north of NYC, in upstate NY.

We will be meeting at the following location—Pelton Pond Parking Lot , Fahnestock State Park, on Rt 301, less than a mile from when you get off the Taconic State Parkway, on your right side just before the Park office.

GPS address: 1498 NY-301, Carmel Hamlet, NY 10512  - This is the park office, about 1/3 of a mile further down Rt 301, so once you get off the Taconic, look for signs for Pelton on the left side of the road.

Here is a Google maps link to the location we are meeting at, which you can use to generate your own direction to the location.

Covid 19 Details - In order to make this event comfortable for all to attend, the standard we seek at our events is for people to be fully vaccinated, which means 2 weeks after their last vaccine dose. Therefore we ask your vaccine status on the rsvp form. Given the nature of the group and the fact that activities are outdoors  we are using the honor system and we hope that people will be accurate in their answers. We also ask that everyone follow the current NY State, NY city and CDC guidelines which apply to  their situation.

Since not everyone will or can be vaccinated, such as younger children, we ask that anyone who is not vaccinated please maintain social distancing and wear a mask during the event, per NY and CDC guidelines.

We also ask that if anyone has any symptoms for covid –19 such as cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, or new loss of taste or smell,  etc they not come to the event . We also ask you not to attend if you aren't fully vaccinated and have traveled internationally or to areas of the US that are highly impacted by Covid-19 within the last 14 days.  We also ask you not to attend if you have been exposed to someone who has a suspected or confirmed case of Covid-19 and of course we don't want you to come if you suspect or have a confirmed diagnosis of covid-19.

If any of these reasons preclude your attendance after you have RSVPed, we will refund your fee after the event as long as you let us know before the event that this is the reason you are not attending the event.

In light of covid-19, the rsvp form also has a waiver we ask you to sign as part of attending this event. Thank you for your cooperation in these matters.
