DAVETREK ADVENTURES

Sunset at Haleakala Crater—January 2005 © David Brotsky

Here is the plan:

A) Go to a nice area in Morris County NJ, about 70 minutes from NYC, which is full of activities in the area and we usually get a balanced mix of singles, couples, families and kids,

B) Choose one of two options

   (i) Either Go Blueberry & Rasberry picking, visit a 4H county fair and go on a tour of a 200 year old grist mill ,

(ii) Or Go on a 5 to 7 mile hike that partially follows a beautiful stream visiting an exotic natural gorge and go on a tour of a 200 year old Grist Mill

C) End the day with both groups at a 4 PM kosher catered BBQ for all (carnivores, omnivores and vegetarians), with volleyball and other activities

What more do you need? See below for the highlights and visit our FAQ Page for more details.

It’s a little early in the week, but the weather looks to be partly sunny and in the low 80s...

Here are some of the activities available:

** Hiking (5 to 6.5 miles, intermediate and partially along a beautiful stream)

** Fruit Picking at Alstede Farm - Blueberries and Rasberries, at the peak of the season!!

** Tour the historic Cooper Grist Mill and learn how grains are milled and ground!

** Kosher BBQ for All, carnivores, omnivores  and vegetarians - Catered BBQ under the Vaad of Flatbush

**  Morris County 4H Fair, with dozens of wide ranging booths and crafts like weaving, animal shows, amusement rides and other activities.

** Volleyball, Soccer and Frisbee  and stomp rockets that go as high as 200 ft for kids and adults

Please see the event details page for all the specifics…and see below for all the pricing

Decide quickly so you won’t get closed out!  Right now, the weather looks to be awesome ( in the mid 80s and sunny). Severe rain cancels, but otherwise the event will occur.

GIVEN THE SIZE OF THIS EVENT,

PEOPLE WHO DO NOT REGISTER PROPERLY,

This is a new event, but in general for large events like this  we close the RSVPS and have to  reject  many people because people registered late or incompletely.  This year we had over 100 for our Memorial Day, and at some point I will close this out. It could be as large! Register QUICKLY, so you don’t get closed out!

Rides, Van & Train Option

Rides

We will try and arrange rides, likely via a google docs spreadsheet we will start to post as of Tuesday for those who register, so the earlier you register the easier it will be to get a ride— from our experience, we usually manage to get most people rides of some sort. The ride fee will be $20 round trip. For drivers who take at least 2 passengers, you will more than cover your driving expenses. Passengers, please pay the driver $20 when you enter the car. They are doing you a favor, so please have the money available in cash.

Van/Bus Potential

If we have enough people who need transportation but cant get a ride, we will see about a van or bus option, likely adding $25—$35 per person for transport to and from the event. We may also then send people on the train - see below. Let us know your preferences on the RSVP questionnaire.

Train Option

For those who don't manage to get a ride, there is also a train option from Penn Station —you can take a NJ transit train leaving at 8:11 AM from Penn Station and arrive at the Gladstone Station at 10:08 AM, which is about 8 miles away. The town of Chester has a free shuttle for those coming on either the 10:08 AM train, or the one arriving at 11:08 AM, to the fruit farm we are going to, Allstede Farm, which is less than a 10 minute walk from the BBQ/Hiking  location at Cooper Grist Mill The one way fare is about $15. We will pair up those who want to take this option so you can coordinate and come together. Those wanting to go on the hike would need to make the 8:11 AM train, and would get to Cooper Mill just around the time the hikers will leave, but you will miss the tour of the Grist Mill. Let us know your preference on the RSVP form.
